Grown in Colombia exclusively for Marmadukes
Small Growers, Big Impact
Urrao, a hidden gem in Colombia’s coffee landscape, is a region renowned for its high-altitude coffee farms and deep-rooted cycling culture. This mountainous terrain, home to cycling legends like Rigoberto Urán, is also where smallholder coffee farmers cultivate some of the country’s most distinctive specialty coffees.
We have partnered directly with Urrao growers, through our coffee supplier Origin, to create an entirely bespoke coffee, just for our coffee-loving customers.
This exclusive lot is a blend of coffees from small-scale farmers in Urrao, each dedicated to meticulous hand-picking, on-farm fermentation, and careful drying before selling their beans to the Cooperative of Coffee Growers of Salgar. At the cooperative, the coffee is sorted by cup profile, ensuring only the finest beans make it into this selection.
These producers are rewarded with premium prices for their exceptional quality, fostering a cycle of sustainability and continuous improvement.
The Unique Terroir of Urrao
Situated in the Western Cordillera of the Andes, Urrao’s coffee-growing landscape is shaped by its proximity to the Páramo del Sol, a high-altitude ecosystem exceeding 3,500 meters above sea level. This rich environment, abundant in water sources and biodiversity, creates optimal conditions for coffee cultivation. The altitude of the farms where this coffee comes from are around 1800 to 2100 meters above sea level, with a climate and volcanic soils that allow for slow cherry maturation, enhancing the bean’s natural sweetness and complexity.
